Hybrid Registrations Grew by 38% in 2007
An interesting article from the Associated Press about the number of hybrid cars registered in the United States. Now if we can only get some extra capacity so our rental car agencies can pick up a couple hybrids for rent!
U.S. Registrations of new hybrid vehicles rose 38% in 2007 to a record 350,289, according to data to be released by R.L. Polk and Company, a Southfield, Michigan automotive marketing and research company.
Hybrids made up 2.2% of the U.S. market share for 2007 but they grew steadily even as overall sales of conventional cars declined 3%.
Lonnie Miller, director of industry analysis at Polk said rising gas prices may affect some buyers but aren’t the main driver of hybrid cars.
Sales jumped in 2007 because buyer had more options he said including the Nissan Altimata Hybrid, General Motors’ Saturn Aura and Totota Motor Company’s Lexus LS600h hybrid (not to mention their Prius!) as well as several new full size hybrid SUV options from General Motors, particularly the Chevrolet Tahoe and GMC Yukon.
